Fact of Faces

Fact of Faces is a series of paintings that explores portraits of women using a desaturated colour palette with vibrant greens. The quiet stillness of the figures is juxtaposed with lively patterns and migratory animals. The solitude that the subjects display evokes a calmness and symbiosis with nature. The work challenges notions of nature vs. culture presenting spaces where being is directly tied to our current, past and future surroundings. The use of migratory animals alludes to future as well as past movement, suggesting a constant growth cycle and the protean quality of identity.
